Ships of Dignity

Temporary rescue becomes a permanent investment.

Everyone expects

The world cannot agree how to house refugees.

What I found

He saved them. Then the market bought them.

Liam O’Donovan can no longer bear watching people die while an adequate response fails to appear. He finds ships, converts shipping containers into homes and builds a route out. Residents get shelter within weeks; willing adults are promised paid work.

Accommodation income and work contracts become predictable enough to finance. Hedge funds trade container futures. Employers rely on the workforce; governments postpone settlement decisions because the ships absorb the pressure. Temporary quietly becomes permanent.

Residents find their contracts sold on while their housing and transport debts remain. A manifest lists “MASSAGISTS – WOMEN”. Refusing the new work means the debts keep growing. Nativist drones sink a ship in the Channel.

Liam sets out to destroy the system he built, and finds that everyone it now pays has a reason to keep the ships sailing.
